A crossover of three of Madison’s series, it brings together three feisty women whose leadership and skills are required to stop a renegade Romulan fleet from not only invading another reality, but inadvertently bringing about the destruction of all of them!
This is a shout out for the entire “Nova Trek” series written by M.D. Bruffy. I think we have all, at one time or another, run into the gender swap world of Star Trek where we have a female version of Enterprise officers running around. Those can be entertaining to be sure but M. D. Bruffy takes this concept to a different level. In this version we only have a single gender swap for Jane Kirk in replacement of James Kirk. I was surprised to see that in this story Jane and Spock become a thing and I thought, “oh no, here we go again,” but M. D. Bruffy weaves this relationships creatively into events of the original series, showing us inflection points where, if Kirk had been a female even scenes we are all familiar with may have been approached somewhat differently leading to new solutions to problems that could be resolved in a different manner because of the gender differences that were not traditionally available for the original series with both Kirk and Spock being males. Bruffy weaves these story elements in so seamlessly that you are caught up in these slight variances until you reach the point where you have to say, “that makes sense, wow, that really does make sense.” Then there is the skill needed to have a character like Jane, the female counterpart of Jim, and yet not make her just a clone of Jim with breasts but giving her a slightly different feel which is similar, but distinctly different from the James T Kirk which makes her a delightful character to get to know and … happily, I think she ends up in a lot better place than her “Prime Universe” counterpart as a result. I wish everyone could write fan fiction like this, just truly exceptional work. Thanks for sharing it with us all. Alei – : )
